“Our vision is Montenegro as the Switzerland of the Balkans and the Singapore of Europe,” New Prime Minister Spajić told parliament ahead of the vote.

The 44th Government of Montenegro, led by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, was elected in the Parliament of Montenegro on October 31st. The country will be led by a pro-European coalition, helmed by former finance minister and ex-Goldman Sachs banker Milojko Spajić, who leads the centrist Europe Now Movement. At 36, he is the youngest Prime Minister in Europe.

“A stable macroeconomic environment, long-term sustainable public finances, a competitive and predictable tax policy, and a financial system that supports innovation and development are the cornerstones of the business environment we want to build,” said Prime Minister.

The new Prime Minister said that all system institutions, through responsible, transparent, indiscriminate, and efficient work, must be dedicated to eliminating obstacles to creating a fair market and being a service to the economy that creates new values. The Government will work on reducing bureaucracy and optimizing and simplifying procedures with a careful analysis of the business community’s needs, all to develop the digital economy further and strengthen economic growth.

The Government’s focus, among other things, will be on the development of the ICT sector, which in previous years has shown resistance to crises and rapid growth, especially in positioning Montenegro as a recognizable destination for the development of blockchain technology.

Global economic conditions and challenges create new economic development opportunities. The role of the 44th Government will be to develop and affirm Montenegro as the best investment destination while constantly improving our competitiveness and business environment, emphasizing the promotion of specific investment projects, as well as cooperation models with the state, through public-private partnerships.

The Government has recognized that energy represents a great development opportunity for Montenegro. By developing an Energy Development Strategy, it will further work on planning and valorizing renewable energy sources. Work will be carried out on constructing the second section of the underwater cable towards Italy and improving Montenegro’s electric distribution and power supply network by constructing new power and distribution lines and substations.

Bearing in mind the fact that tourism represents one of the key foundations of the economic development of Montenegro, as well as the current trends and developments in the global tourism market, the 44th Government is strategically determined to develop Montenegro as a high-quality, year-round tourist destination with a recognizable image on the market.

Prime Minister Spajić pitched his government’s main foreign policy priorities as joining the EU, continuing membership in NATO, improving Montenegro’s relations with its neighbors, and participating in multilateral organizations.
